FUNDATION

The Brethren Foundation is an Ecuadorian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with institutional history since 1953, when it began its projects related to rural development, education and health.

Its origin is related to the Church of the Brethren, an American evangelical church that undertook actions in Ecuador before 1950.

In 1993, as a result of the merger between the Brethren and Unida Indígena Inc. foundations, the current Brethren and Unida Foundation (FBU) was formed as an Ecuadorian, secular, non-profit NGO.

Among its strategic objectives are: to strengthen the institutional presence in three areas of historical settlement such as Pedro Moncayo and Cayambe in the Sierra Norte; Intag in the northwest of Imbabura, and Olón in the north of the province of Santa Elena.

In addition to positioning the FBU as an actor in rural development, food sovereignty, agroecology, agroforestry, water resource management and non-timber resources.

Its work specialties also include volunteering, environmental education, alternative energy, popular finance and permaculture.
